Even though Real Madrid star center midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni was linked with a potential move out of the Spanish capital for months, Jose Mourinho had a change of heart after previously taking a long look at wantaway Chelsea star No. 6 Enzo Fernandez.
Real Madrid and Mourinho have 100 percent decided on keeping Tchou not just for this season but through 2031 on a new contract with a raise. After securing Tchouameni, here are the next players Mourinho could target for Real Madrid this summer 2026 transfer window.
Inter Milan CB Alessandro Bastoni
Jose Mourinho signed Ibrahima Konate from Liverpool for free as a starting caliber center back who can pair with Eder Militao, Dean Huijsen, or Antonio Rudiger, but understandably the Portuguese manager wants someone better than Huijsen or Rudiger to be at the top of the rotation.
Alessandro Bastoni is clearly the dream option for Mourinho. Real Madrid already poached Denzel Dumfries for less than 30 million euros due to a release clause, but his teammate in central defense will cost triple that amount. One of the best ball playing defenders in the world, Bastoni has been to two Champions League Finals and is likely priority No. 1 to help Mourinho seal his defense as one of the world's best.
Bayern Munich RW Michael Olise
Michael Olise is more of an obsession for Florentino Perez than Jose Mourinho, given the latter prefers to build his defense up. But Mou surely would not say no to the best assist provider in the world and a rare left footed right wing talent who can do it all at the position. Bayern Munich are not interested in selling Olise at all, but GMbappe is on the case, recruiting the Bayern man while together on World Cup duty for France. Real will have to save every penny to sign him.
Borussia Dortmund CB Nico Schlotterbeck
Real Madrid have pulled out of the Nico Schlotterbeck transfer race after his World Cup injury, but there is always the chance they could go back in for a player they have been watching for at least three years now, dating back to when he was a breakout star for Freiburg. Schlotterbeck is now tried and true at Borussia Dortmund, helping carry the suddenly untalented BVB side to second in the Bundesliga. An elite athlete who can make the difference in all phases, Schlotty would be significantl cheaper than Bastoni with a release clause under 60 million euros.
