The World Cup is already under way, and many teams have played two of their three matches in the group stage already. Jose Mourinho has been busy cooking up signings for Real Madrid, and although Los Blancos are already sitting on four Mou approved additions, there should still be more on the way.
Here are three players Mourinho needs to be watching closely this World Cup as the tournament continues, either because they are players he may sign for Real Madrid - or they are players he could decide to sell in order to bring in an upgrade.
Argentina DM Enzo Fernandez
Chelsea star Enzo Fernandez has been pitching himself to Real Madrid for months now, and Real have honestly been even more interested in the player than they are in other defensive midfield targets, including Spanish national team star Rodri.
Jose Mourinho seems to favor his own compatriot, young West Ham United breakout star Mateus Fernandes, but Enzo is on his radar, too. If he has a smashing World Cup with Lionel Messi and wins it again as a dominant part of Argentina's squad, then it may be impossible to deny him a trip to Madrid.
France DM Aurelien Tchouameni
Likewise, if Aurelien Tchouameni continues to pass sideways, defend at a mediocre level, and struggle to impose himself in an even easier setting with the France national team at the World Cup than with Real Madrid, then his spot on the bubble could really quickly devolve into a sure fire transfer.
Mourinho is already looking at replacements for the No. 6, and he can't be impressed with the fact that Tchouameni shows no fight on the pitch for his teammates but is willing to punch them behind the scenes.
Germany CB Nico Schlotterbeck
Nico Schlotterbeck is a world-class center back who oozes quality on the ball, comes up and scores goals, and fights with reckless abandond. The left footed German international is everything Jose loves in a central defender, which is why he is one of the top center backs on his short list.
Mourinho has a real decision to weigh when it comes to choosing that final center back to his puzzle, but if Schlotterbeck keeps scoring goals and plays mistake free defense for Germany at the World Cup, that decision will become easier for the Portuguese manager. Schlotterbeck is more affordable than the alternatives with Borussia Dortmund placing a release clause under 60 million euros in his new contract.
