Real Madrid were terrible from start to finish against Mallorca, and the 2-1 defeat at the Iberostar Stadium was nothing more than they deserved for a display lacking in both quality and concentration. Here are three players, in particular, who cost Los Blancos the most in this La Liga loss.
FW Brahim Diaz
The worst player on the pitch in terms of pure quality, Brahim Diaz was often standing right behind midfield players instead of actually working himself open for those passes through the middle of the pitch. Brahim should have been more active on the ball against the low block, and while Kylian Mbappe hoarding so much aimless possession hurt the Moroccan international on the right side of the attack, Brahim has to answer for his own failings.
His statistical output was horrendous. Brahim created nothing, won zero dribbles, and could not even muster a single drawn foul. That is embarrassing for a starting forward for Real Madrid against lowly Mallorca. Brahim took a major step back after previously impressing against Manchester City.
CM Eduardo Camavinga
Eduardo Camavinga failing to pick up the run from Manu Morlanes late in the first half was a back breaking error of effort and concentration. Now, Cama did show effort overall, winning the ball plenty and producing a couple of nifty passes, but there is so much about the young Frenchman that continues to go lacking in terms of his work and positioning off the ball. He was very poor in this game, and Real Madrid fans are rightfully disappointed in his lack of progress.
FW Kylian Mbappe
In truth, there were a couple of worse individual performances than Kylian Mbappe, who did create chances for himself and others with blistering runs on the left side of the formation. But in a game in which Real needed a real focal point to the attack and an open outlet in the box and in dangerous central areas, Mbappe was too busy running off the shoulder and into the sidelines, rather than getting himself open in scoring positions.
Mbappe has to be the star in his own head and have the ball, when he could be more effective truly following in the footsteps of Cristiano Ronaldo and advancing his game off the ball. The Frenchman's flaws fall in line with so many of his teammates, and he really needs to start leading by example as a true team player.
