Real Madrid can count the number of long-term injuries they have had in the last couple seasons on both their hands.
Real Madrid have lost Eder Militao twice, David Alaba, Dani Carvajal and Thibaut Courtois to long-term injuries in the last two years, as well as a number of academy players who do not get mentioned enough in these lines.
The problem is there - Real Madrid have had multiple players on every level out due to ACL injuries in the last couple of years, and it is alarming.
However, one of them is coming back soon.
Real Madrid prodigy Joan Martinez is in the final recovery stages of his ACL injury
Martinez, who is really highly rated by the club, sustained an injury in training, which meant his hopeful run with the first team was not going to take place this season.
Raul Asencio took his place instead, and became Real Madrid's best center-back. However, now, Martinez is close to coming back.
The Spaniard is only 17 years old, and will definitely play with Real Madrid's B team - the Castilla - next season and hopefully towards the end of this season as well.
The club being so keen on his potential could also mean that they try to get him to appear in some first-team games down the line.
Real Madrid are in desperate need of central defenders at the moment. They may not sign a player, but if that means Martinez becomes that new signing and evolves into a central defender everyone knows he can be, then Real Madrid may not even need to sign anyone.
I think the feeling should be to sign someone, though, as at the end of the day, he is only 17 years old. When was the last time a 17 year old made regular appearances for Real Madrid's first team?
It is good news either way, though, and if Real Madrid are genuinely this keen on him, well then maybe he would actually play more.
