Vitinha is undoubtedly one of Europe's best midfielders and Real Madrid are huge admirers of the Paris Saint-Germain star. But any potential deal for the Portuguese ace would be a difficult one because of negotiations with the Ligue 1 giants.
The 25-year-old's stock continues to grow amid a stellar season at PSG where he has been a mainstay in Luis Enrique's team. He has continued to be one of the most effective midfielders and was hailed by Thomas Frank as the best midfielder in the world.
Madrid are aware of the difficulty in trying to convince the Parisians to part with a player who finished third in last year's Ballon d'Or race. That's why they are putting it to the player to try and secure a move to the Estadio Bernabeu.
Real Madrid interest in Vitinha grows
Madrid are reportedly waiting for Vitinha to gesture about a potential switch to the Spanish capital. They will wait for him to make his stance on this clear before entering initial talks with PSG.
Spanish outlet Cadena SER claims that the Portugal international has a 'private exit option' in his contract. That is great news for Los Blancos because it means there is an opportunity to swoop for the midfielder.
That said, Vitinha won't be cheap and is thought to cost around €100 million which is a similar fee to that of the transfer which brought Jude Bellingham to the Bernabeu. But he ticks all the boxes for the Spanish giants with his composure on the ball and box-to-box profile.
A midfield overhaul is anticipated this summer but spending that much on one player could scupper other potential deals. Another midfielder on the club's radar is AZ Alkmaar's Kees Smit.
Vitinha would be an excellent signing
Of all the midfielders who have been linked with Madrid, Vitinha is the most glamorous potential signing. He will be expensive but worth it given how long he has displayed his playmaking abilities at PSG.
Vitinha has appeared 31 times across competitions this season and provided six goals and 10 assists. He has proven experience at the elite level and was a key man in the Parisians' Champions League triumph last season.
Madrid will have to wait and see if the Portuguese is willing to push for a move before trying to persuade PSG to part with the player. He has just over three years left on his contract at the Parc des Princes.
