Former Real Madrid midfielder Dani Ceballos is finally joining Real Betis after months of not having a club, according to journalist Fabrizio Romano.
Real Madrid terminated Ceballos' contract earlier this summer because both parties realized that the relationship just cannot continue for any longer.
Ceballos was not an important player for the club last season, especially under Álvaro Arbeloa, as he played virtually no minutes during his tenure.
It was always reported that his heart was set on joining another club, but in particular Real Betis, who have always been his footballing home for as long as anyone can remember.
Real Madrid signed Ceballos from Betis in 2017, and since then he has talked a lot about eventually wanting to go back to the club at some point. In fact, there were times where he would openly say that he wants to return at that point in time, which also rubbed certain Real Madrid fans the wrong way.

Ceballos' mentality and commitment to the team, at least in his final few years at the club, was always very confusing and left Real Madrid fans with a bitter taste in their mouths. When he first joined the club, Ceballos was one of the most talented midfielders in Spain, but as time went on, he showed that his mentality was not really where you would want a Real Madrid player to be.
As a result, Real Madrid terminated his contract after the end of last season, despite having a year left. He was originally due to remain at the club till 2027, but he waived his last year's salary and ended up terminating the contract with the club. It is a decision that helps all parties involved.
Real Madrid had an opening in midfield where they could add a reinforcement that would provide more value to the club than Ceballos. Ceballos would get what he wants, in the sense that he could go to the club he wants for no transfer fee, and Betis would get their player without having to spend too much money, which they were reluctant to do in the first place.
It is surprising that it took this long for the two parties to come together and make a deal, but for Ceballos, it's better late than never, as he can now finally start his next chapter in football and play for his boyhood club once again.
