Over the last few years, Real Madrid has been phasing out its legends and ushering in the new generation of Los Blancos. Last season we saw the tear-jerking departure of Dani Carvajal from the Bernabeu, bringing to an end one of the most decorated careers in the history of Real Madrid. The Spaniard spent the last few months as a free agent, and after months of waiting, he has finally landed at his next club, one not too far from Real Madrid.

As being reported by Fabrizio Romano on X, Dani Carvajal has reached a verbal agreement with Getafe and is set to undergo his medical checks this week ahead of officially completing the move. The Spaniard had been without a club since leaving Real Madrid when his contract expired at the end of last season, and many questioned where he would end up; and he decided to stick close to home, opting to stay in the Spanish capital.

Dani Carvajal is staying in Madrid, just not with Los Blancos

Getafe will mark the third club Carvajal has played for in his career, having spent the bulk of his legendary career at Real Madrid, and a brief season-long loan at Bayer Leverkusen early in his career. Last month, the 34-year-old had links to the Premier League, with both Liverpool and Alvaro Arbeloa's Fulham showing interest, but nothing materialised.

Carvajal's arrival at Getafe is a direct request from the coach, who was looking to add a wide player who brings experience, and it's hard to find someone in the modern game more experienced than Dani Carvajal.

Getafe were somewhat of a surprise in La Liga last season, culminating in an impressive 7th-place finish, which saw them qualify for the UEFA Europa Conference League. Carvajal brings the experience of winning six Champions Leagues at Real Madrid, which could help the team's mentality as they try to balance La Liga as well as playing in a European competition this season.

The manager looking for a 'wide player' does bring up the question of whether Carvajal will be playing in his natural right-back role or if he will be called into action to play in the attack. Seeing Dani Carvajal putting in right-wing shifts at 34-years-old is definitely something no Real Madrid fan would have seen coming, but there's no doubt Madridistas are here to see it.

Real Madrid still has yet to play Getafe this season and will square off with the Madrid club on January 3rd at the Bernabeu, with the away fixture coming on April 18th, 2027. A move to a club like Getafe is the perfect move for Carvajal at this stage in his career.

He isn't getting any younger, and joining a team like Getafe, where there isn't as much pressure to bring home silverware, and he can just enjoy playing his football for a couple more years, is a great way to bring to an end a legendary career.
