It is fair to say that Ibrahima Konate has been a stellar signing for Real Madrid this season. He has already solidified himself as one of the first names on the team sheet, and it looks like it will continue for the foreseeable future.
Konate has been brilliant for Real Madrid, as the defense now looks much more stable than it did last year. Dean Huijsen's form has also improved quite a bit, but Konate's involvement has definitely stablised it more. The two defenders work quite well together, and it is interesting to see whether Jose Mourinho changes anything whenever Eder Militao reaches full match fitness.
The good old saying is to not fix anything that is not broken, and at the moment, it does not seem like Real Madrid's defense needs much fixing.
However, Real Madrid do need to look at the future as well, and they would need another central defender to replace Antonio Rudiger when it is time for him to go, and they might even want to sign another centre-back if they manage to sell Raul Asencio.
Jacobo Ramon is a brilliant talent, and is performing well at Como
One of these centre-back replacements, preferably the one for Rudiger, could well be Jacobo Ramon, who has been astonishingly good for Como in the last two seasons.
Ramon, much like Konate, has had a brilliant start to this campaign, scoring a bunch of goals but also looking incredibly stable as a defender for Como. He is still improving as a player, so he is not quite as polished as the French defender, but he is getting there, and it seems like it will be a matter of time until Real Madrid sign him back.
They have a release clause of just nine million euros next season, and it does not seem like they would be able to sign someone better at that price.
Real Madrid love to sign cheap or free players, and if they are as good as Ramon has shown to be in the last year or so, there is no debate about it - they would need to bring him back as soon as possible.
In the game against Torino, he was a monstrous presence. Despite a mistake leading to goal for the opposition, Ramon was able to compose himself and have a much, much better performance in the heart of defense. He scored a goal to make up for his mistake, and won 12 of his 12 aerial duels. He also had the most touches of anyone on the pitch with 125, had seven clearances, six recoveries, and an incredible performance.
It will be foolish to not make him Real Madrid's third-choice centre-back in the next couple of seasons, because he is a player who can easily take that next step in his career.
