Dean Huijsen has been Real Madrid’s revelation of the season. This is something that is tough for people to say considering he has only been at the club for a season, and is just 21 years old, but considering the average points at which Huijsen was last season, this season has been hugely important for the player.
Real Madrid have done well in games which Huijsen has started in, and it is really important that both his starts and his form keep on going.
Huijsen looks like a changed man. He looks so different to the player that left for his holiday after a tough debut season, and has not only improved his form to the level he showed at the start of last season, he looks even better.

Huijsen’s form this season has exceeded anything he showed under Xabi Alonso, which was considered his best run of games for the club.
Now, Huijsen has formed a formidable partnership with Ibrahima Konate at the heart of defense for Real Madrid, and looks like a much more mature player than the Spaniard who arrived at the club from Bournemouth for an expensive fee.
Real Madrid needed a defender to lead this Real Madrid team to a new era, and although it has only been a few games and anything can change in football very quickly, it is safe to say that Huijsen has been the most positive change any Real Madrid player has had from last season to this new one.
Against Inter, he was, once again, exceptional with whatever he did. On the ball, his passing and ball-carrying was crisp but safe and mature. Without the ball, he was tough, aggressive, and executed the basics of defending to perfection.
Huijsen finished the game with 12 clearances, two tackles, one recovery, one interception, one block, four duels won, was dribbled past zero times, and had seven carries to show for his on-the-ball skills.
It was a mammoth performance from the Spaniard once again, and his demeanour on the pitch was much more like a traditional central defender, rather than what he showed last season – where it felt like he was not trying to be intimidating enough.
This has been a brilliant change in every sense of the word, and hopefully, Huijsen keeps playing this way for the foreseeable future, if not better.
