Real Madrid fans were rooting for new left back Marc Cucurella and the Spanish national team to shut down Argentina in the World Cup Final after watching their antics, dubious calls, and anti football mar the entire tournament, and La Roja deliverd fully with a dominant 1-0 win.
There were also players on both sides with possible Real Madrid transfer links, all midfielders. Rodri and Enzo Fernandez are the two main candidates Jose Mourinho has been pondering for the Merengues - but have so far been rejected - and Liverpool star Alexis Mac Allister from Argentina is another who has been steadily linked throughout the tournament.
While Rodri secured the 2026 World Cup Golden Ball with a tremendous display against Argentina, Enzo embarrassed himself with an awful red card and Mac Allister also played a very poor game again for the losing Finalists.
Mac Allister is not an option for Real Madrid
Mac Allister is coming off an atrocious season for Liverpool and was a huge reason why the Reds almost did not make the Champions League at all, and if he was still a transfer target for Real Madrid in the middle of the park despite Eduardo Camavinga's reluctance to leave the Santiago Bernabeu and Aurelien Tchouameni's new long term contract extension, then he 100 percent took himself out of the running with his performance.
Aside from making shady fouls and throwing himself on the ground, Mac Allister did nothing in the World Cup Final. The Liverpool man barely completed 80 percent of his passes, created no chances for his teammates, and was average at progressing the ball or winning it back from the dominant Spanish midfield.
Real Madrid need the best players in the world for their club, and Alexis Mac Allister has been nowhere near that level over the past year. He was great for Brighton and in his first season for Liverpool when they won the Premier League in 2024/25, and even Madridistas have to admit to his heroics when Argentina won the 2022 World Cup.
But football is a sport about what you are doing lately, and if Real Madrid were to spend 80 million euros or so on a midfielder entering his prime years, then they would need someone who can immediately deliver Champions League winning quality performances.
In a big spotlight against Rodri and Spain, Mac Allister played with the authority of a mouse and had to resort to cheap tactics. With a display like that in the big game, Mac Allister has no Real Madrid future.
