Real Madrid superstar forward Vinicius Junior is heading into the final year of his contract, as his current deal with the biggest club in European football will end when the 2026/27 season concludes. For more than a year now, Real Madrid and Vinicius Jr. have been working on an extension, but neither side can come to terms.
There are positive feelings that a deal will happen. Florentino Perez loves Vinicius since signing him from Flamengo in 2018, and he wants to keep the Brazilian icon at all costs after he played a pivotal role in winning two Champions League titles, even as he and Kylian Mbappe continue to clash on the pitch.
Meanwhile, every indication is that Vinicius Jr. also wants to continue at Real Madrid, and his love for the badge is no secret. It is just that there is the money issue clouding things. Figuring out the truth behind the rumors is never easy, but there may be agents or others at play - or it is Vinicius himself hiding behind them in the reports- wanting more money on the table from Real Madrid, but Florentino will not budge - he never does. Does Vini want to be paid on par or more than Mbappe as a reference point? That is another question Madridistas are wondering.
Vinicius Junior is here to stay
After Vinicius Jr. scored a worldie to help Real Madrid hold off Deportivo Alaves in a 2-1 win representing an important return to victory for Los Blancos, manager Alvaro Arbeloa briefly addressed the rumors about VIni's future at the Santiago Bernabeu.
The Real Madrid manager said at the post game press conference, via the Madrid Zone, "I'm certain that Vini Jr. wants to stay at Real Madrid for many years."
It is nothing earth shattering and a simple statement from the manager, but it is an important one for Real Madrid fans to hear. There is a lot of talk in the papers, especially with the clash of styles with Kylian Mbappe in the attack complicating things, that Vini Jr. is being linked to clubs abroad or that there are seeds of malcontent behind the scenes.
Alvaro Arbeloa is wisely addressing things head on by stating that he is "certain" Vinicius Jr. is still in it for the long haul at Real Madrid. Even though Vini has drawn the ire of fans recently, there is no doubt that keeping him is the best outcome for the club, and, deep down, even his critics in the fan base understand how much he means to the team.
