Two years ago, Real Madrid sent Nico Paz to Como, and the transfer could not have gone any better for all parties. Como are on the verge of qualifying for Champions League football, while Paz is set to return to Real Madrid this summer transfer window for less than 10 million euros after establishing himself as the best player in Serie A and legitimately one of the top five players in world football this season. There is not a single player on Real Madrid right now who is playing at as high of a level as Paz has for Como this season.
Obviously expectations, opponents, pressure, and game flow are all different, but Paz has shown that he has the quality to be a key player for Real Madrid next season. Como, though, will want someone back to replace Paz and continue their upward trajectory in Italian football, and top manager Cesc Fabregas seems to be interested in going back to the Real Madrid well for another attacking midfield gem from Castilla.
Cesar Palacios is drawing major interest
According to a report from Diario AS, via Madrid Xtra, Como and Osasuna are the two clubs leading the race for Cesar Palacios, who is one of the elite prospects for Real Madrid Castilla. Athletic Club were previously seen as the favorites for Palacios, but they have apparently backed out of the race since they are one of those clubs that, on principle, does not want to accept the notorious deals with Real Madrid wherein Los Blancos maintain a 50 percent buy back clause on the player.
But as Como's Nico Paz and even Osasuna's Victor Munoz have shown this season, that buy back clause is omnipresent in Real Madrid dealing away their young players because of the threat of one of those prospects blowing up into one of the most desirable players in a league. Munoz has been awesome for Osasuna, and they'd love to have another one of him in Palacios. And if Palacios can have even half the impact of Nico Paz at Como, Fabregas would be over the moon.
Palacios is just 21 years old and already worth six million euros despite only getting a few games in the Real Madrid first team in La Liga, one in the Champions League, and one in La Liga. With all the attacking midfield talent, a cup of coffee, similar to Paz, has been tough to come by for Palacios at Real Madrid, but everyone can see this guy is a special talent, too.
