Real Madrid star center back Antonio Rudiger is in talks to extend his contract with the club, and while many fans are against the move, given how mediocre the German international has been since the club won the Champions League in 2023/24, it seems as though Real's management view there being no alternatives with how weak the defense is overall. Because even if real do keep Rudiger around, they still need at least one and likely two more center backs to replace David Alaba and Raul Asencio.
But if Real Madrid were looking for a reason to let Rudiger go and avoid paying him money on a new deal, then he gave them one with more unprofessional behavior. Rudiger's antics have grown tiresome but have never quite crossed that line into being a fireable offense, but this latest one, slapping Alvaro Carreras in the locker room, definitely heads into that territory of severity.
According to a report from Onda Cero, via the Madrid Zone, Antonio Rudiger did what he did to Carreras because he was frustrated with the Spanish left back and the other young players at Real Madrid. Rudiger reportedly feels that the young players either don't understand how bad things are getting for Madrid or, worse yet, simply do not care. And that was the reasoning behind Rudiger having any outburst.
Real Madrid's locker room is unlikable
We all know that Rudiger has a short fuse, and while his aggression can cost the team, his heart has always been in the right place. He genuinely cares about Real Madrid and wants to do his best, but, even on the pitch, that doesn't always come across in the right way.
In all honesty, Real Madrid should be moving on from the declining Rudiger, but as awful as this act against Alvaro Carreras was, Rudiger isn't the biggest villain in all this. Rudiger's temper boiling over in a barbaric act was the breaking point of a malaise that has gripped this Real Madrid locker room.
Because there is a problem of young, entitled players proliferating in the locker room, and a few veteran players like Dani Carvajal and Dani Ceballos enabling this moaning, complaining, and petulance. There are a lot of players who do not care about the plight of Real Madrid and only care for themselves or are too immature to see anything beyond their own selfish desires. Rudiger did the wrong thing, but his apparent justifications will actually ring true to Madridistas who are fed up with this extremely unlikable group of players.
