Real Madrid signed Yan Diamande from Leipzig for a club-record fee earlier this summer. The expectation is that Diamande will eventually start playing regularly for Real Madrid once he is completely ready.
That has not been confirmed by any news outlet or by a club official, but that is the expectation for a player that Real Madrid have spent so much money on and a profile that Real Madrid have needed since Gareth Bale. They will finally have a right winger to put on the pitch, which will be very beneficial for the team.
The problem with it is that Arda Güler is still playing at an unbelievable level. He is causing so much havoc whenever he plays for Real Madrid. He already has a goal and an assist in the three games he's played, but he's really deserved much more than that. He had 12 key passes in his first two games, which is ridiculous.
Even before those games, Güler was the team's best player in every single pre-season game.
Let's leave that behind and strictly talk about the three games he's played since the season started. Güler has looked phenomenal in all of his games so far, and if he keeps playing like this, it will be really difficult for Mourinho to keep him out of the lineup.

Mourinho himself has given him such a brilliant role in that right-half space where he's given authority to drift in and become an attacking midfielder and tee up his teammates. If he keeps playing like that, he could easily fit alongside Jude Bellingham, who is also playing at a very high level, and they can form a brilliant partnership.
All of this is just to say that if a solution like this already existed, was there any need for Real Madrid to sign Diamande? The answer is yes, probably.
But now the club looks, at least for this season, silly for signing Diamande because they have a solution to a problem that they have been looking to solve for the longest time. Güler and Bellingham have struggled to play well together in the past, and with Mourinho's new setup, it is finally possible, and Real Madrid are getting the best out of both of them.
It was so good that now removing Güler for Diamande, whenever that happens, feels like a bad decision. If you want width, you can always put Trent Alexander-Arnold in a very wide role, which is something that he used to do at Liverpool in his formative years.
You also have the option to start Denzel Dumfries, even though Trent should realistically be the one who starts most games at right-back anyway. The width isn't the problem.
Güler is a capable enough defender, and even if he's not, Real Madrid have not signed a near-140 million euro player just to help the right-back out in defense. Obviously, there is a lot that Diamande also provides, which everyone will see when he starts playing regular minutes.
However, at the moment, Güler starting should be non-negotiable because of the ridiculous level he is playing at. He cannot replace Bellingham in the lineup, but he more than deserves a place in the starting eleven either way.
