In the past, it was Messi vs Ronaldo. Now, it's Lamine Yamal vs Vinícius Júnior.
That's just how good Yamal is, he's already being compared to the player who should have won last year's Ballon d'Or.
Anyway, a fairer comparison, some might imagine, is Yamal vs Güler. This is because Güler is only two years older than Yamal and hasn't been at the height of his game as long as Vini has.
However, it's important to mention that these comparisons are made by the fans only. Much like Messi vs Ronaldo all those years ago, the players are unlikely to fuel those debates.
Arda Güler just made his real thoughts on Lamine Yamal crystal clear
Arda Güler has spoken out, while on international duty with Turkey, about the comparisons between him and Lamine Yamal. He spoke very articulately and downplayed the comparisons, while remaining respectful to Yamal.
Güler said: “I don’t have much to say about Lamine Yamal. We don’t play in the same positions. But I still understand the comparisons, because he’s at Barcelona and I’m at Real Madrid. I wish him the best. I’m not surprised by what Lamine is achieving. He’s very talented and he’ll do his best to make things difficult for us.”
Güler was referring to the international match between Turkey and Spain. It was a match that was won, ever so comfortably, by Spain. Arsenal midfielder Mikel Merino stole the show by scoring a hat-trick, but Barca duo Ferran Torres and Pedri added to the scoring to make it 0-6.
In the match, Güler wasn't nearly as composed about Yamal as he was before the match. Güler, being the high achiever is, was visibly annoyed by Spain's dominance. He was eager to take a quick free kick, and it was prevented by Yamal. The two were then involved in a mini tussle on the pitch.
It wasn't anything serious, and didn't justify any further action from the referee. Still, Real Madrid fans would have been happy to see Güler stick up for himself and make his presence known.
Despite the poor result against Spain, it's still been a good international break for Güler. He'll be eager to return to Real Madrid and get the last laugh over Yamal.
