When players post social media messages to departing managers, it is often seen as lip service, an attempt to garner likes and boost a player's online presence. Certain big-name players, such as Kylian Mbappé, posted brief statements about Xabi Alonso's departure from Real Madrid. Some, such as Vinicius Junior, did not bother to post. However, Arda Guler's tribute to Alonso on Instagram appears very genuine.

Guler lacked game time at Real Madrid under Carlo Ancelotti. Alonso trusted him and played the young attacking midfielder 34 times, where he scored four goals and provided 10 assists.

The Turkiye international posted on Instagram: "Mr. Xabi Alonso, Thank you for believing and trusting in me from the first day. Every conversation, every detail, every demand helped shape my game and push me to a higher level. I’m truly grateful for everything you added to my journey. Your faith in me made me a better player. Wishing you and your staff nothing but success in what comes next. Your impact will always stay with me."

Alonso trusted Guler in a variety of positions, including attacking, central, and right midfield. The player now faces an uncertain future with Alvaro Arbeloa taking charge of Real Madrid.

What does the future hold for Arda Guler?

It remains to be seen how Guler will fit in under Arbeloa. The manager's only previous experience has been in charge of Real Madrid's youth teams. He favors a 4-3-3 formation, so Guler may be forced into playing in wide positions.

Guler will stick it out at Real Madrid despite interest from a number of top teams. Arsenal is reportedly interested, but they are well-stacked with attacking midfielders such as Martin Odegaard, Eberechi Eze, and Ethan Nwaneri.

He has been linked with other Premier League clubs, including Manchester United, Liverpool, and Aston Villa. Inter Milan and AC Milan of Serie A could also be options, whilst the Bundesliga teams Bayer Leverkusen and Eintracht Frankfurt have been named as possible destinations in the past.

Gyler will have options if he suddenly lacks game time at Real Madrid and needs to move on. However, it will always be a step down to leave Los Blancos. Guler is only 20 and is contracted to Real Madrid until 2029. Therefore, he will likely outlast many coaches at the club. Alonso's tenure was swift despite him being a club legend. Arbeloa will not be expected to be Real Madrid's manager in the long term.
