Real Madrid got past a nervy Juventus test to get their third Champions League victory in a row after a 1-0 win at the Santiago Bernabeu on Wednesday night.
A goal from Jude Bellingham proved to be enough in this game for the home side, who will now look to face Barcelona in a few days, before travelling to Anfield 10 days after in their next Champions League clash.
Arda Güler was exceptional once again against Juventus, making so many chances for his Real Madrid teammates as they looked to find an opener.
He had seven key passes, completed six out of his six long ball attempts, made 10 recoveries, and five crosses.
Güler was the creative hub for Real Madrid, even though he operated from a deeper position than usual.
Xabi Alonso likened Arda Güler to Mesut Özil and Guti
Before the match, manager Xabi Alonso was asked about Güler's comparisons with former Real Madrid player and teammate of Alonso, Mesut Özil.
He gave a very interesting response to it, accepting the comparison while also giving it his own spin.
He said: "He’s a mix between Özil and Guti. Guti had that quality to play in the build-up and for the final pass. Mesut too. I really enjoyed playing with Özil. The more we find Arda, the better we get. We have to keep pushing him. We’re very happy with him.”
Even Guti, before the match between Real Madrid and Juventus, said that he sees bits of himself in Güler's game, and he also mentioned that he thinks the Turkish international will surpass him.
To hear that from two legends of not only the team Güler plays for, but the game in general, would have been amazing for the player.
He is only 20 years old, and is already showing so much promise playing regularly for Real Madrid. It is in sharp contrast to last season, where he hardly ever featured for the club.
Alonso has realised that this player is really important for Real Madrid's build-up as well as their chances going forward, which is why he is playing as much as he is.
Güler is not the finished product yet. Actually, he is far from it, but it will be brilliant to see him morph into either Özil or Guti. If he is able to reach either of their peaks, Güler would be up there when it comes to the best creators in world football.
