Arda Guler and right back Trent Alexander-Arnold are the two best creative players on Real Madrid, and many Madridistas are hoping that Jose Mourinho can use both to the fullest and find a way to have both players on the pitch at the same time in the starting lineup.
Alexander-Arnold has been shining brightly this preseason, clearly motivated and fully fit after a summer snub in which Thomas Tuchel in explicably left him out of the England national team squad for the 2026 World Cup, which maybe the Three Lions would have won if they had Trent's wand of a right foot putting the ball on a plate to Jude Bellingham and Harry Kane - the two men otherwise carrying a pretty bland England attack with Bukayo Saka and the others doing zero.
Real Madrid manager Jose Mourinho is already taking a liking to Trent's attitude and quality, and he has been doing what Jurgen Klopp flirted with at Liverpool, playing Trent a bit inside, which is an even bigger possibility with the signing of wide right winger Yan Diomande for 140 million euros from RB Leipzig. And then Real Madrid also signed Denzel Dumfries at right back, with some speculating that this could lead to some midfield looks for Trent in a regista role to add more playmaking to the Madrid midfield, especially with Rodri now spruning the great Royal White club for bitter rivals Barcelona.
Arda Guler is quality
But while Trent Alexander-Arnold was the one shining and putting pressure on Arda Guler to prove that Real Madrid still need his playmaking in a competitive XI that will also see Jose Mourinho give major minutes to his favorite Portuguese veteran midfielder Bernardo Silva, it was Guler's turn over the weekend to dazzle in a win over Champions League regulars Ferencvaros from Hungary.
Guler created four chances in total and had a brilliant performance playing off to the right along with Silva. There are questions about Guler playing out wide, and he will be tested more as an athlete against superior sides, but this was a great response from the Turkish international whom many see as the next Mesut Ozil in that playmaker role under Mourinho.
Playing Trent further inside, or even in the midfield, threatens to take Guler's minutes as a playmaker away in midfield, but Guler just showed that he is every bit as full of quality as the former Liverpool Champions League and Premier League winner.
