Arsene Wenger will enrage Real Madrid fans with latest defense of Kylian Mbappe

Even though many Real Madrid fans are highly frustrated with Kylian Mbappe after watching their beloved Merengues go trophyless for a second straight season while the Frenchman's former club PSG won yet another Champions League crown to put themselves on the cusp of tying Real's three peat feat, there is no doubt that most true Madridistas still want to see Mbappe succeed in the Spanish capital next season.

There is simply too much invested in Mbappe, too much talent, and too much faith from Florentino Perez in his Golden Boy for there to be any acceptable outcome other than Mbappe succeeding. But what is not helping matters is the lack of accountability towards Mbappe from within the organization and from those without, as there are still people enabling behavior that includes not even trying to defend, running into the way of other players, woeful finishing, woeful work ethic, throwing players and managers under the bus, potential anonymous leaks in the media, and all sorts of shenanigans.

Worse yet, the Real Madrid locker room is fractured because of all the fawning over Mbappe's Pichichi Trophies without mention of an efficiency record worse than Luka Jovic's or Mariano Diaz's in terms of shots to goals, as well as the lack of attention to those creating the chances.

Arsene Wenger offers clueless Real Madrid take

Former Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger, who never won the Champions League and had more seasons of mediocrity than championships, decided to praise his countryman Kylian Mbappe, which is actually not the problem and not something Real Madrid fans will have an issue with.

But like so many of those uninformed in punditry, it is the way he did it. Take a look at what Wenger said, via the Madrid Zone, ā€œKylian MbappĆ© has often been unfairly criticized this season. He’s landed in an average Real Madrid side. Kylian has physical freshness, he’s not overworked. People tend to forget his exceptional talent.ā€

None of what Arsene Wenger said makes any sense at all. Not a single soul has forgotten Mbappe's exceptional talent; that is all people talk about, his raw talent and nothing else. But the most bizarre thing he said is that the Real Madrid side Mbappe joined was "average". The same side that won the 2023/24 Champions League without a single defeat and won La Liga was merely "average". A side that had Ballon d'Or candidates Vinicius Junior, Jude Bellingham, and even Dani Carvajal with Rodrygo Goes and Thibaut Courtois as other major stars was just "average".

It is a brazen take for a manager with zero Champions League titles to call a Champions League winning team "average". This is the sort of thing that drove the true PSG fans of the early 2020s and the current Real Madrid fans who are not Mbappe cultists insane; the way big names in the media talk about Mbappe and talk down his teammates. It is infuriating to the fans.
