Real Madrid were torn to shreds by Barcelona in El Clasico, losing 2-0 on Sunday night at the Camp Nou to offiically crown their bitter rivals at champions of La Liga. Meanwhile, Real Madrid have hit an official record of their own, making it two straight seasons without a trophy. The last time they did that was the first time Jose Mourinho came home to save the day, and a reunion with the Special One is the expected outcome of all this drama at the end of the season.
Although his ballyhooed French national teammate Kylian Mbappe is back in the spotlight for all the wrong reasons after his late removal from the squad for El Clasico, Real Madrid center midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni was the unfortunate man of the hour in the preceding week after (allegedly) deciding to play Mike Tyson Knockout with Fede Valverde, with whom he has apparently been feuding with months.
Funnily enough, it seems that while Tchouameni is quite brave with his hands in the locker room, he's pretty timid for a No. 6 with his feet on the actual pitch. And he's also not one to care about fighting on the pitch for his teammates either, seeing as how he left Vinicius Junior to stand alone to five Barcelona defenders after they shoved Raul Asencio to the turf, with Tchou standing by as if he could not be bothered to care about El Clasico.
Aurelien Tchouameni is the anti-Casemiro
But that's par for the course for Tchouameni, whose nonchalance in the 6 and lack of leadership is quite the contrast to the titan of the sport he replaced, Casemiro. Tchouameni has, like his compatriot Eduardo Camavinga, shown very little since coming over from Ligue 1, and there is no tangible growth in his play.
Out of all the inglorious performances for Real Madrid in their latest Clasico humiliation, Aurelien Tchouameni was actually the worst of the worst. He was abysmal. Not only was he a passenger, but he was a turnstile, allowing the Barcelona players to pass through the midfield without so much as checking their passports. Tchouameni gave everyone a free drive on the Autobahn down the throat of the Real Madrid defense.
Blocking passing lanes? Crunching into tackles? That's what Casemiro was for. In Tchouameni's mind, he is there to stand there and flash looks for the camera. If a teammate is in distress? Casemiro's job was to get in the muck. Tchouameni doesn't want to ruin his pretty face; he'd rather be the one to throw the punches.
It was a disgraceful perfomance from Tchouameni in El Clasico, and if Tchouameni's fight with Fede Valverde initially shielded Kylian Mbappe, his teammate has repaid the favor with his latest escapade. But that will not last long. Fede has been a bedrock player for Real Madrid and is concussed. Tchouameni has been an 80 million euro flop. If Tchou plays one more game like this after wetting the bed in El Clasico, the Madridistas are going to go after him with a fury that will make even Dani Ceballos feel bad.
