Real Madrid are after some of the most talented young midfielders in world football to rebuild their squad under Jose Mourinho. The Portuguese manager has taken a real liking to West Ham United's breakout star Mateus Fernandes, Morocco's gem Ayyoub Bouaddi is on the club's radar, and then Chelsea star Enzo Fernandez is a big target who has been desperately wanting this Santiago Bernabeu move for months.
But in order to sign one or especially two top midfielders this summer, Real Madrid are going to have to make at least one big sale. Given Mourinho is so focused on 6's and 8's, particularly hybrids of the two, it stands to reason that disappointing Frenchmen Eduardo Camavinga and Aurelien Tchouameni are the two players squarely on the chopping block for the new manager.
Manchester United's interest in Tchouameni is no secret, and after signing Casemiro from Real Madrid in 2022, Man United could sign the very same player Madrid bought for 80 million euros from Monaco to be Case's replacement after the 2021/22 Champions League crown.
Manchester United could make a Real Madrid double swoop
But Tchouameni is not the only one Man United are looking at. According to a report from Miguel Serrano, via the Madrid Zone, Manchester United are also interested in Camavinga, whose future at the Santiago Bernabeu is even more uncertain than that of his compatriot.
Per Serrano, Camavinga continues to make it his priority to stay with Real Madrid and has been resisting transfers back to Ligue 1 to giants PSG, who wanted him back when Real signed him from Rennes, or to the many Premier League clubs interested. But Serrano does state that Cama may be open to the Premier League ultimately. Real Madrid are reportedly asking for 60 million euros for the player.
That is actually a reasonable price for a very talented, young box to box center midfielder who, at his best, is legitimately one of the best in the world. He does not fit what Real Madrid need and they have better box to box players - they need No. 6's - but his dynamism and quality could be exactly what this lethargic Manchester United midfield need.
The Red Devils may even fall in love with both the Eduardo Camavinga and Aurelien Tchouameni profiles, wanting a double swoop for the 6 and the 8, and it is plausible Real Madrid could sell both players, utilizing the funds to sign two new midfielders of their own.
