Lucas Vazquez has consistently delivered below-average performances this season. He wasn't just poor; he was downright dreadful this season, and it's a good thing he's departing after a season that clearly shown he's past his prime.

According to Marca, the right-back is now a possible signing for Catalan club Espanyol, where he previously played in his career.

The local rivals of Real Madrid's main rival FC Barcelona are putting together a new team that will undergo various changes, and bringing back a former star may be a welcome addition.

Lucas Vazquez has lucrative alternatives outside of Spain as well

However, Espanyol is not the only club that might potentially sign the youngster. According to the article, Vazquez also considered offers from MLS, the Saudi Pro League, and Qatar.

Vazquez has been one of Real Madrid's most trusted players in recent years, and while he was widely criticized this season, he was a key player for Los Blancos before that.

The 33-year-old deserves a better farewell from the Real Madrid crowd after spending his whole life and ten-year career with the club.

It is understandable that the game leaves you at a certain age, and fighting to stay at the top level long after your talent has faded is a silly delusion. And I'm delighted Vazquez recognized this shortcoming in his career and opted to cease playing for Madrid. His presence would harm more than it would help.

After starring for Real Madrid Castilla, Vazquez was loaned to Espanyol, where he demonstrated his potential to play at the highest level of Spanish football. A successful tenure at the Catalan club prompted Real Madrid to welcome him back.

If Vazquez does join Espanyol, it will be strictly out of nostalgia because he is being offered tremendous money elsewhere. Vazquez will still have part of that Madridismo within himself, which may come in handy against rivals Barcelona.
