Barcelona have two of the most talented wingers in world football in Lamine Yamal and Raphinha, who have now won back to back La Liga titles and were both bona fide Ballon d'Or candidates in the 2024/25 season. Real Madrid thought they would have the best front three in world football when they signed Kylian Mbappe for free from PSG in 2024, but Yamal and Raphinha helped steal the show from the Merengues with the breakout of the former Leeds United man under Hansi Flick.
Last summer transfer window, Barca took a flier on one of the biggest names in English football in Marcus Rashford on loan from Manchester United, and while he actually rebounded and played very well for them, Barca are looking for even better.
And now, they have identified a new signing in Karim Adeyemi, with the Borussia Dortmund youngster, who was once wanted by Barca and Real Madrid together in 2022, agreeing to personal terms with the Spanish giants, per Fabrizio Romano. With one year left on his contract, Adeyemi had already made it clear to the Bundesliga giants that he wants to leave to a bigger club, and now the speedy German international has made it even clearer that he wants Barcelona and only Barcelona.
Karim Adeyemi is one to watch
Real Madrid were never interested in Adeyemi anyway after his development stagnated in Dortmund, but Los Blancos still have to worry about the explosive left footed winger making his way to their bitter Clasico rivals this summer.
Because while Karim Adeyemi has attitude issues, immaturity, inconsistency, and even injury questions, the right man to help him explode is Hansi Flick. The German coach does wonders with mercurial young attacking talents, and while a lot can be said about Adeyemi as a flop for Dortmund, the club also screwed up his development, too. Adeyemi is one of the best players in Europe at accelerating on the break, he has good technical quality, and he can sniff out goals.
Adeyemi can play on either flank, and as a competing option with Raphinha in that same role with his left foot as a free runner, he could be even more devastating with speed. Trent Alexander-Arnold, the starting right back of Real Madrid, has been put on notice with Barcelona going hard after Adeyemi now.
Trent is a great player who was better than many think last season, but he does have questions about his speed in transition defense these days. Adeyemi is the kind of player Trent can struggle with, and he is going to have to bring his A game in El Clasico if Adeyemi plays as a starter or off the bench. Because if he does not, Jose Mourinho may have to turn to new signing Denzel Dumfries.
