Arsenal have been quietly trying to sell Gabriel Jesus for months, and after an active summer transfer window with their own acquisitions, the Gunners have finally found a pretty high profile landing spot for the former Manchester City man. After signing young wingers Karim Adeyemi and Anthony Gordon to bolster their depth while losing Ferran Torres and Robert Lewandowski at the No. 9, Barcelona, who are still desperate for their own dream striker signing in Atletico Madrid's disgruntled forward Julian Alvarez, have made the plunge for Gabby J.
Barcelona will pay Arsenal just 10 million euros - plus add ons - for a player who, not but a few years ago, was regarded as one of the best all around strikers in the world. Now, Jesus is a gassed "has been" for Arsenal, and he struggled badly last season, barely playing, becoming a third choice option behind Viktor Gyokeres and former Champions League winner Kai Havertz.
But few can forget that Jesus was once a big star even in a secondary role to the legendary Sergio Aguero at Man City, and he was such a thorn in Madrid's side in the 2020 Champions league that the Merengues were strongly considering him as a striker option off the bench behind their even bigger legend, Karim Benzema.
Gabriel Jesus is not good news for Real Madrid
It is also impossible to forget that Jesus was, initially, vital to Arsenal, and he is a massive reason why the Gunners were able to become Premier League title contenders against Man City in the first place after Mikel Arteta brought Gabriel Jesus over with him from the Etihad to the Emirates.
While Gabby is a shell of his former self, a lot of that may just be because he was deemphasized by Arsenal, who have not exactly played the sort of brilliant attacking football the Brazilian international is used to and thrives best under, particularly in recent years with Arteta leaning more and more into the Dark Arts.
But at Barcelona under Hansi Flick, Jesus is a potential nightmare for Real Madrid. He was a huge nuisance to them in the Champions League while at Manchester City, and he has the kind of all around, active profile that Madrid hate to defend against, especially when they don't have dynamic players on the pitch.
Barcelona are the top dogs in La Liga for two seasons running, and whlie Jesus is not as good of a player as Ferran Torres is these days, the 29 year old is a similar profile with better finishing, surprisingly, and even more expereince. He is not someone for Real Madrid to laugh off, and his ability to drop deep, create chances, drift wide, and interchange with wingers like Anthony Gordon, Raphinha, and Lamine Yamal presents a huge tactical threat to Jose Mourinho and Real Madrid. Watch out.
