Young Real Madrid striker Gonzalo Garcia was one of the few bright spots of another dismal Royal White season without any trophies, and he was actually scoring goals at a significantly higher rate than starting striker Kylian Mbappe when referring to their ratio of shots to goals.
Garcia first got his opportunity to play under Xabi Alonso in the Club World Cup, and he has impressed with his finishing, work rate, and, especially, his positioning. He is Madrid's only true No. 9 profile in the box and the only real threat for headed goals.
But Garcia is too promising to sit around and not play, so there have been rumors this summer transfer window that Real Madrid could let him go on loan. And early in the window, there were even rumors of him being sold permanently with a similar buy back to the Nico Paz deal with Como, with Borussia Dortmund among the top clubs interested in Garcia as a replacement for the moody Serhou Guirassy.
Mourinho seems to love Garcia
Jose Mourinho, though, is at least as high on Gonzalo Garcia as his predecessors, and he made it clear that he wants to see Garcia in person this offseason before making a decision - and thus the rumors went back from a sale to a loan. So far, Garcia has impressed Mourinho so much that he is standing out above his peers at preseason practices.
Real Madrid's most recent manager and Mou's former right back Alvaro Arbeloa has tried to complicate things on the Garcia track, showing interest in several young Madrid players he managed previously, including most prominently Garcia as a new No. 9 for Fulham.
But according to a report from Nizaar Kinsella of BBC Sport, Jose Mourinho has apparently made it so abdundantly clear to Alvaro Arbeloa and Fulham that he does not want to sell Garcia at all this summer transfer window that the Cottagers have now pulled out of the transfer.
Now, the news that Mou does not want to sell Garcia is not new, but that Fulham are not even trying to sign him on loan and that Mourinho reportedly told Arbeloa he wants to keep Garcia is an even stronger statement from the Portuguese manager.
Though a loan is stiil possible, maybe Endrick is the one who has to be a little more worried, because it sounds like Garcia is already impressing Mourinho a lot and is closer to staying for the full 2026/27 season.
