There is considerable uncertainty at Real Madrid right now. Notably, the uncertainty surrounds key figureheads in the squad and dressing room.
Vini Jr has been linked with a move away for the longest time, but now it only feels like a matter of time. His countrymen, Endrick and Rodrygo, are also linked with moves away from the football capital of the world.
However, the most immediate cause for concern at Real Madrid is the manager, Xabi Alonso. He arrived only in the summer, and after a strong start, he is blamed for ruining the club culture at Real Madrid in recent months.
The Athletic journalist, Mario Cortegana, claimed yesterday that Real Madrid don't entirely blame Xabi Alonso, but they are concerned. BBC Sport recently ran their own headline, which is less favorable for Xabi Alonso.
It's now or never for Xabi Alonso at Real Madrid
Guillem Balague, BBC Sport columnist, claimed that the chances of Xabi Alonso keeping his job at Real Madrid are 'slim'.
Xabi Alonso's future at Real Madrid is not yet fastened either way. The decision-makers at the Bernabéu have not yet made up their minds. However, it is believed that the game on Wednesday night, against Man City, could be crucial.
So, it sure does sound like Real Madrid is close to making up their minds on Xabi Alonso, which was to be expected.
Florentino Perez might seem calm to the public, but everybody knows he makes decisions fast. That's not to say they aren't reasoned, but he always has Real Madrid's best interest at heart, and sometimes waiting does more harm than it does good.
If Xabi Alonso beats Man City, this would certainly swing things in his favor again. It is a huge game, in the competition that Real Madrid values the most. They will take La Liga with a pinch of salt, given all of the forces working against them there.
It should not be overlooked that the Champions League game is against a team managed by Pep Guardiola. For obvious reasons involving his Barcelona ties, Real Madrid fans will want to conquer any team that breathes the same air as him.
Nevertheless, Xabi Alonso has just been given an extra incentive to go out there and win the game this week. Who knows? That could be the turning point that pits Real Madrid back on the straight and narrow.
Unlike some Real Madrid fans who would happily pack Xabi Alonso's bags for him, we will reserve judgment until then.
