According to a report from AS, Bernardo Silva's only shot at starting for Real Madrid is if he plays over Fede Valverde and Aurelien Tchouameni, both of whom are seen as untouchable. It just does not make any sense at all.
Real Madrid have looked much better when Bernardo Silva has been playing than when he hasn't played, and it does not take a genius to figure that out. Real Madrid have enjoyed more possession when Silva is on the pitch than when he is not, and it is a much better, more cohesive team when Silva is playing as one of the two pivots in the team.
Silva has not played all of Real Madrid’s games, but the difference in the quality of them building from the back is much, much higher than when he is not there. That goes to show that even a 32-year-old who is supposedly past his peak can perform better than midfielders at Real Madrid who are in their prime.
It does not make sense for Real Madrid to continue with Aurelien Tchouameni and Fede Valverde in midfield
That doesn't mean that is a bad thing for Silva to be playing well. However, if he is actually playing that well, he should be starting over one of the two midfielders. Ever since Tchouameni came into the starting 11, Real Madrid just have not looked good. It has been well documented in the last two years that a partnership of Valverde and Tchouameni just does not work, and even then, Real Madrid keep fixating on it for some reason.
Jose Mourinho was brought in to correct the mistakes of previous coaches. He was brought in to make the difficult decisions, and yet Bernardo Silva remains on the bench for most of the games. Even against Atletico Madrid, when Real Madrid were struggling to keep the ball, it wasn't until the 82nd minute that Silva was brought on.
It just goes to show that there is a hierarchy problem at Real Madrid, and that hierarchy has gone to the wrong players. What has Tchouameni done in his Real Madrid career to warrant an untouchable spot in the lineup for Real Madrid?
You can still understand Valverde's spot in the lineup, but even he has not played well in these last few months. Under Mourinho, no one should be a guaranteed starter for any game, and Silva shouldn't be either.
However, the way Real Madrid are playing without him and the fact that they don't have a midfielder like Silva in the team show that maybe it is for the best that the Portuguese international keeps playing as much as possible.
