Real Madrid won the first match of their Champions League campaign after beating Inter 2-1 at the Bernabeu on Tuesday, and Brahim Diaz was one of the very best players on the pitch.
He was honestly the best he has been in years, and that says a lot considering how many good, underrated performances the player has shown in the last few seasons.
He may not be Real Madrid fans’ favorite player at times, but he makes sure to always give his absolute best and work tirelessly to make sure that his team ends up on the winning side.
One of the few things fans dislike about him is his tendency to keep the ball for long stretches. Brahim is an excellent dribbler, but sometimes, he overdoes these things to the point where fans are holding their heads because there was a much better option to pass the ball to.
Even when Brahim does end up passing the ball, many times, it happens after a touch too many, or a dribble too many.
Brahim's one-touch passing was amazing vs Inter
Against Inter, he was absolutely perfect in that sense. In fact, since the World Cup, it feels like Brahim has worked on this. There have been some brilliant one-touch passes from the Moroccan International, and against Inter, he was at the best he has ever been in that sense.
Brahim not only created a brilliant opportunity for Kylian Mbappe to put the ball in the back of the net in the first half, but he also had so many others where he deserved an assist. There were so many moments where Brahim simply got things done, and many of them were well-timed.
He found the perfect mix of keeping the ball and dribbling past opponents, and playing it to his teammates quickly. He showed both sides of his skillset, and it was really enjoyable to watch.
Brahim dribbled past multiple Inter bodies to set Jude Bellingham in one sequence, and in another, tried to finish off a brilliant move by the entire team by laying the ball off to Mbappe first time.
Those two chances should have ended up in the back of the net, but the fact of the matter is that people can no longer blame Brahim for it.
Brahim used to take the fair share of blame on many occasions. For every brilliant dribble that would open up the opposition team or a goal scoring opportunity for him, he would have a couple where it was probably best to play the simple, boring pass.
Brahim has improved a lot in that sense, and every single Real Madrid fan saw that to full effect on Tuesday night.
He may not start every single game for the club, but if he continues to play this way, there won’t be many players better than Brahim off the bench at any club.
