Morocco forward Brahim Diaz delivered another decisive performance for his country, registering two assists to bring his 2026 World Cup total to four in five games as his team outlasted Canada in a harder fought Round of 16 battle than the 3-0 score line would otherwise suggest.
Brahim has been a bit sloppy on the ball and has lacked goal threat for Morocco, but he has made great passes at decisive moments to change the game as a constant threat to create chances - and in transition, he has been an absolute killer with space in front of him.
The 26 year old's performances this summer at the World Cup come at a crucial time in his career, because he is no longer a young player but now a player in his prime who is expected to produce at the highest level. Because even for a squad player, the expectations of a Real Madrid attacker are still astronomical.
Brahim Diaz is a fighter
As transfer rumors swirl around Brahim, it is clear that the Moroccan international wants to stay at the Santiago Bernabeu and impress new manager Jose Mourinho. So far, the Portuguese manager appears impressed, because he has not told Brahim that he is discounted or obliged to the fierce rumors of another top manager wanting his signature in Luciano Spalletti of Juventus.
Jose wants to have Brahim for the upcoming preseason and presumably the start of the season to better assess the player before making a transfer decision, and in comments after the game to reporters, Brahim made it clear that he plans on digging his heels in and staying at Real Madrid.
He said, via Madrid Xtra, “I’m very excited to start working with Jose Mourinho.”
It is nothing but a simple statement, but the intentionality behind it is heard loud and clear by the Madridistas. Although Brahim Diaz will be wanted by more clubs after this World Cup and just exploded his transfer value to the Serie A clubs looking for a little bit of invention and counterattacking brilliance, he has no plans on leaving Real Madrid.
His goal is to work with Mourinho, learn from him, and support the stars of Real Madrid as best as he can. Brahim has made a difference for Morocco this summer, and he has done so for Madrid in the past, especially in the 2023/24 season when they won the Champions League and La Liga. He is ready to fight.
