There has been an unfair narrative cast on the superstars of Real Madrid who have already won La Liga and the Champions League before Kylian Mbappe's arrival, the accusations of rampant egos extending to these stars, and a lack of trophies. Jude Bellingham was central to Real Madrid winning the 2023/24 Champions League title, while Vinicius Junior and Fede Valverde were both protagonists when Los Blancos won in 2021/22 as well.

And yet, Vinicius Jr. and Bellingham, along with Fede, have been maligned by the media and compared to Mbappe in what is whataboutism and false equivalency at its finest. But how conveniently the past is forgotten and withheld as wool over the eyes of the Madridistas.

After Real Madrid won the Champions League and La Liga titles together in the 2023/24 season, then manager Carlo Ancelotti waxed poetic about the stars in the squad, and he specifically highlighted how special the chemistry was in the locker room, pointing out how the biggest stars in the team did not have an ego.

Carlo Ancelotti said there were no egos in 2023/24

Ancelotti said to English outlet The Times, via the Madrid Zone, "Vinícius, no ego. Bellingham, no ego. Rodrygo, no ego. And the senior players are like that. Toni Kroos, Dani Carvajal, Nacho, Luka Modric. I don’t know what happens in the future but there is no jealousy between the young ones now. Humility is important. You must have that.”

While things can change - and they certainly did for Dani Carvajal, for example, but only because he is coming to grips with his own footballing mortality now that he is no longer a starter - it's hard to believe that Jude Bellingham and Vinicius Jr. could have gone from having no ego to being massive problems.

And Real Madrid fans, if they open their eyes, can see their humility this season. Whereas Kylian Mbappe ignored the fans and even laughed at them during the game when they booed, Vinicius Junior and Jude Bellingham have never once lashed out at the paying Madridistas at the Santiago Bernabeu. If anything, they showed the utmost humility, apologizing to them and facing the music like real men, instead of throwing their managers under the bus.

Most of what is written about Bellingham and Vinicius is disrespectful conjecture that eschews what we have seen before our own eyes. And look how quickly people forget the words of Ancelotti about them. But that is no surprise, considering there are wolves among the sheep at the Bernabeu who turned their backs on Don Carlo themselves, too.
