Casemiro will always be a Real Madrid legend, as he was the missing piece the club needed as the defensive shield and deep midfielder to do the dirty work for Luka Modric and Toni Kroos. Because after Case joined Los Merengues in the mid 2010s, they went on to three peat the Champions League, and then right before joining Manchester United, the Brazilian international added a fourth European trophy to his ledger in 2022.
In the years since leaving Real Madrid, Casemiro has oscillated between hero and villain, declared finished by Jamie Carragher after a great start to life at Old Trafford before redeeming himself in his final season in 2024/25 under Michael Carrick.
But even as the months wound down on his 2025/26 Premier League campaign, it became obvious that Case's best days were behind him, which is why he is headed to play with Lionel Messi in MLS with Inter Miami.
Casemiro leaves behind the wrong Brazil legacy
Against Norway in the World Cup Round of 16, Casemiro, unfortunately, very much looked like a guy headed for the United States. He was completely shot, as Norway ran circles around him in the middle of the park. He was useless on the ball, a turnstile defensively, and flubbed a golden opportunity to win the game for his team.
After the match, Casemiro looked absolutely gutted, and it was hard not to feel for him as he stared down the cameras and told the press the harsh truth about his legacy with the Brazil national team. He, Neymar, and the rest of the stars of the 2010s and 2020s Brazil will always have to look back on their tenure as failures, with this 2026 World Cup exit being their worst tournament performance in decades.
Casemiro said, via Fabrizio Romano, “It’s difficult. I only want to be with my family. We did our best, but we lost our dream… we disappointed all Brazilians. We will always be the generation that didn’t win the World Cup”.
Most of the brunt of that cross is Neymar's to bear, as the former Barcelona and PSG star was held up as the future Pele when he was at Santos, gracing the cover of PES 2013 as a mere young talent still playing in South America.
But while Neymar carried Brazil for years and Casemiro won even more than the best player in the world after GOATs Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi, the two have to face down the harsh reality that as good as they were, they 100 percent failed the Selecao. And it was sad to see them go out as finished, washed up veterans against Norway.
