One of Real Madrid's biggest issues last season under Carlo Ancelotti was the leaky backline. The team was conceding goals for fun towards the end of Ancelotti's tenure and that was the clubs biggest priority in the transfer window this past summer when it came to incoming signings.

The club brought in Alvaro Carreras, Dean Huijsen, and Trent Alexander-Arnold, hoping to reshape the backline and stop the goals from leaking in and on occasion it has but on other, the defense still looks rocky and needs more reinforcements, specifically at center-back.

Real Madrid had been looking at a number of central defenders before Xabi Alonso's departure on Monday. The likes of Ibrahima Konate, Marc Guehi, and Nico Schlotterbeck are among the names on the club's list for the summer and they are doing their due diligence as they look for their perfect central defender signing, as it can't afford to make recruitment mistakes anymore.

Another name Madrid is considering is Como defender Jacobo Ramon. The Spanish giants sent the defender to Como this summer to get the regular minutes he wasn't receiving with Los Blancos, and he has become a standout for Cesc Fabregas' side in Serie A. However, Florentino Perez's Merengues aren't the only club eyeing the defender and face competition from a number of Premier League clubs this summer.

Chelsea and Liverpool jeopardize Real Madrid's hopes of signing defender

As reported by Football Espana, Real Madrid's plans to re-sign defender Jacobo Ramon from Como could be disrupted as Chelsea and Liverpool join the race to sign the young defender following a so far impressive stint in Italy.

Along with Chelsea and Liverpool, the report states other Premier League sides, Newcastle United, Brighton, and Crystal Palace, are also interested in Ramon, giving Madrid even more clubs they have to worry about stealing their signing.

Ramon played a handful of games last season, but was never going to be an established starter that early in his career and as a result was sent to Como to join former Madrid teammate Nico Paz, where the two have been thriving, helping guide Como to a current sixth place in Serie A.

Thankfully for Madrid they retain an €8 million buy-back clause for Jacobo Ramon and have first dibs at his signing, hopefully putting to rest any worries they have about missing out on the defender to someone else. He has made 16 appearances so far this season in the Italian top-flight, scoring two goals.
