Michael Olise did not have his finest performance of the year when France took on Spain in the 2026 World Cup semifinals, but his quiet display does not change the fact that the Bayern Munich man had an exceptional tournament overall and has a real chance of making the Ballon d'Or podium after a fine campaign for club and country.
Now that his World Cup is over for France, Real Madrid can begin to accelerate their transfer interest in Olise if they seen an opening. And that opening will have to be given by Olise himself, as the right winger will be opening up talks with Bayern Munich to discuss his future. Without giving a clear signal to Bayern to this point that he is 100 percent staying, the dream remains alive for Madrid.
Real Madrid president Florentino Perez is not the only one obsessed with the idea of bringing Olise from Bayern to the Bernabeu. Several former Real Madrid stars have spoken out in support of the idea of an Olise transfer, who has had Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Thierry Henry raving about him all World Cup long.
Claude Makelele is pushing for Michael Olise
Now, it is former Real Madrid star defensive midfielder Claude Makelele who is practically begging the Merengues to unite his two favorite French national team superstars, Kylian Mbappe, whom he has always praised this summer, and Michael Olise.
Makelele recently said, via the Madrid Zone, "I spoke to Florentino Pérez recently, and I told him that if he had to spend all the money on one player, that player should be Michael Olise. Olise brings back the feeling of watching football, the taste of what we experienced as children: talent, freedom, quality, effectiveness."
It is strong enough of a statement for Claude Makelele to have said this about Michael Olise in a vacuum, but for him to insist on this to Florentino Perez has to mean something, even with the negative history from how Perez snubbed him over the contract during the Galacticos era.
We all can see how smitten Perez is with Olise and how badly he wants to finish a Galactic trio with Vinicius Junior, Kylian Mbappe, and Olise as the left footer on the right. Makelele pushing for him and invoking that sense of being a player who brings joy - and thus puts butts in the seats to make more money - might be the additional sweetner or words Perez needed to hear to get even more convinced to make a big bid.
