Real Madrid are set for a major squad overhaul this summer. A number of veteran players are expected to depart the club as they look to reshape the squad for whoever the new manager ends up being. Players like David Alaba, Dani Carvajal, and Antonio Rudiger are all veteran players who are expected to play their final few games for Real Madrid in the coming weeks. Another veteran who's future remains uncertain is Dani Ceballos. The midfielder is on the outskirts of the squad and it looks like his time at the Bernabeu is coming to an end, but he might not end up where everyone was expecting.

As being reported by Matteo Moretto on X, Eredivisie side Ajax are showing strong interest in signing Dani Ceballos this summer, with the midfielder almost 100% certain to be leaving the club in a few months time. The midfielder has been sidelined since late February with a muscle injury but has recently returned to full team training, however unfortunately for Ceballos, it may be too little too late to save his Real Madrid career.

Ceballos may finally be on the move, but not where anyone was expecting

Ceballos has been a loyal servant to the club since his arrival in 2017, but despite all his loyalty, much like with previous players, his time at the club seems to be coming to an end. The 29-year-old has only featured in a handful of games over the last few years and has actually played quite well when given the opportunity, but given the amount of depth and quality in the Real Madrid midfield, there's ultimately no room for Ceballos, hense an expected sale in the summer.

The Spaniard has long been linked with a return to his boyhood club of Real Betis, but given the fee of around €30 that Real Madrid are asking for the player, the Seville side may not have the funds to bring him back, allowing other European clubs the chance to snatch him up. He had previously turned down a move to Marseille towards the end of the last summer transfer window but given his current situation, he surely won't turn down a move this summer and will take what he can get.

Ajax have had a tough past few seasons, currently sitting 5th in the Dutch league, a spot only good enough for a Conference league playoff spot. The Dutch giants are expected to be active in the summer window as they look to get back to their best, and bringing in an experienced player like Ceballos could be the strong building block the are looking for.

All in all Ceballos' time at the Bernabeu didn't go how the player expected. It was always going to be hard to break into a midfield with the likes of Toni Kroos, Luka Modric and Casemiro, followed by the next generation with Valverde, Tchouameni, and Bellingham. On the bright side the Spaniard was able to grab three Champions League titles during his time at Los Blancos, something he will surely look back on fondly once he departs in the summer.
