It's not an exaggeration to say that Real Madrid's choice of new manager this summer is one of the most important decisions in the recent history of the club. Off the back of disastrous back-to-back trophyless seasons major changes are needed and it starts with the manager. The club has been linked with pretty much every name imaginable over the last couple of months, but one has been mentioned more than others and according to transfer guru David Ornstein, Real Madrid have signed their next manager.
As announced by David Ornstein on X, Jose Mourinho has signed his contract to become the next manager at Real Madrid. Mourinho will be leaving Benfica to return for a second stint at the Bernabeu, putting pen to paper on a three year deal, with an official announcement from the club expected to come after the upcoming presidential elections.
The Special One makes a triumphant return to the Bernabeu
The Portuguese has long been the prefered target of Florentino Perez and was on a list that included a number of other high profile managers like Jurgen Klopp, Didier Deschamps, and Massimiliano Allegri but in Mourinho ultimately prevailed over all the other candidates and will be the man Real Madrid turn to to sort out this ongoing dumpster fire both on and off the pitch.
The 63-year-old will now be returning to the Bernabeu for a second stint 13 years after the end of his first and will hope to find similar success that he found over a decade ago. Mourinho brought three trophies to the Bernabeu in his three years in charge including the 11/12 La Liga title where he guided Los Blancos to 100 points and 121 goals scored. He also won the Copa del Rey in the 10/11 season as well as the 2012 Spanish Super Cup, as well as reaching the Champions League semi-finals in each of his three seasons in charge.
Not only is Jose being brought in to get the team back to winning ways on the pitch, the bigger task on his hands is sorting out the mess that is the dressing room. During his first stint he manage a Galacticos dressing room with the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Karim Benzema, Sergio Ramos, Iker Casillas, Kaka, Xabi Alonso, and Pepe just to name a few. But from the looks of it this current dressing room is somehow even harder to contain, which could prove to be the biggest task Mourinho has taken on during the whole of his managerial career.
Bring in Jose Mourinho to solve your clubs issues in the big year of 2026 is no doubt a risk given he isn't in his prime days like we say before, but Real Madrid need a manager with personality and that's what Jose is. Is he going to solve all the issues at Real Madrid? Who knows, but at the end of the day one thing is for sure, it's going to be box office, so get your popcorn ready as we embark on the newest chaper of Real Madrid.
