There is a school of thought among some Real Madrid fans that Xabi Alonso was wronged by Vinicius Junior, Fede Valverde, and Jude Bellingham. There is this belief that Alonso was a martyr and that he was ousted by three highly successful, living icons of Real Madrid who have won Champions League titles, work their socks off for the club, are respected by all in the dressing room, and were loved before that, too.
There is nothing but anonymous reports and Alonso's own complict silence in throwing his stars under the bus to suggest that they were the reason he was fired. When in reality, president Florentino Perez made the call to fire Alonso because Real Madrid could barely beat the worst teams in La Liga and were showing no growth from their days under Carlo Ancelotti. If anything, the real injustice was done to Ancelotti, who had brought the players together despite the destabilization of the Kylian Mbappe transfer, whereas Alonso, clearly not ready for the big time, drove everyone apart.
Alonso is not seen as a savior by other big clubs in European football. Liverpool chose Arne Slot over him. Bayern Munich chose Vincent Kompany over him. And while Liverpool are having second thoughts about Slot, he did run away with the Premier League title in his first season. He was a bigger success for Liverpool than Alonso was for Real Madrid - and clearly Bayern do not regret the Kompany decision one bit.
Liverpool still don't want Xabi Alonso
Well according to reporting from David Ornstein on the NBC Sports broadcast, via Anfield Sector, Liverpool aren't actually about to go back to the Xabi Alonso well this time around either. After reports from Spain surfaced that Liverpool asked Real Madrid for a character reference on Alonso after the concerning circumstances around his firing, Ornstein says that Alonso is not in consideration for Liverpool. The Reds would rather stick with Arne Slot. And that has Real Madrid fans buzzing.
Ornstein is quoted as saying, "My information is that Xabi Alonso is not under consideration at Liverpool at all and that Liverpool fully intend to go into next season with Arne Slot as their head coach."
Slot has not covered himself in glory, so it makes Real Madrid supporters wonder what exactly they learned about Alonso's time in Real Madrid or what their concerns are about Alonso that are making them stick with Slot than rather go for their former player.
As much as some turncoat fans have villified their own great stars who already accomplished so much for a manager who skated by on the work of an elite group of sporting directors and a perfect squad of players that won a lot of close games for him in the clutch, the rest of the footballing world does not seem to be so smitten with Alonso. And Madridistas have to start wondering why they glorified him as a martry even above one of the GOATs in Carlo Ancelotti.
