All of a sudden, Michael Olise is not the only elite winger Real Madrid dream of. Although there were whispers of Yan Diomande potentially being a transfer target for the Royal Whites this summer, he was never concretely linked and seemed to be a lock to go to PSG after telling his reps that was his choice ahead of interest from Liverpool and others in the Premier League.
But now, at the request of Jose Mourinho, Real are going for Diomande. Mourinho has a lot of pull in the front office now, and every signing he has requested, even those Florentino Perez was skeptical of like Bernardo Silva, has made their way to the Santiago Bernabeu.
Although Mourinho usually wants midfielders and defenders to rebuild the spine of Madrid, he has seen something special in Diomande that is impossible for the Royal White quarter to ignore, and so the club will go for him.
Yan Diomande is expensive
According to information from David Ornstein and Mario Cortegana with The Athletic, RB Leipzig want a whopping 130 million euros in order to sell Yan Diomande this summer. Even when Liverpool and PSG were interested - and, of course, the still are competition for Real - figures above 100 million euros were always floated around by Leipzig.
They know what they have in the 19 year old winger, who can start on either flank and was one of the top five players in the entire Bundesliga, with his peers voting that he was just as good as Michael Olise in the 2025/26 campaign.
Diomande is already a world class winger with a lot of heart and determination, but 130 million euros is a lot of money. It means that Real Madrid cannot have all three of Vinicius Junior, Michael Olise, and Yan Diomande when looking at transfer fees and wages.
So if Real go for Diomande and listen to Mourinho, that means giving up on Olise. But given Diomande can play with both feet, is five years younger, and played just as well as Olise did last season when adjusting for their team situations, it may not be a bad investment to sign Diomande for half the price.
But again, 130 million euros is not some simple investment, and given how tough Liverpool and PSG have had it in negotiations with Leipzig, it is unlikely the Bundesliga giants are going to give Real any friendly rate here.
