Real Madrid are going to prepare for a large sum of exits in the transfer window as they clean house and rid themselves of players who no longer fit at the club, aren't competent enough to be in the squad, are causing problems behind the scenes, or are a mix of multiple of these inglorious categories.
Although Real's biggest issues remain on the defensive side, the midfield, especially the bridge between defense and midfield, is also a huge problem. Real Madrid do not have the same class and control without Toni Kroos and Luka Modric, and while that is thoroughly unsurprising to even those who know very little about this sport, just how bad things have gotten at the Santiago Bernabeu without these two is shocking and entirely unacceptable.
Dani Ceballos is the most obvious midfield exit to make way for Enzo Fernandez, Angelo Stiller, or other players with a better profile for the squad. But Eduardo Camavinag is a notable name who could find himself out of Real Madrid after actually regressing this season. What could save him is his raw quality, importance in two Champions League titles, and affinity with Florentino Perez.
Manchester United are indeed after Aurelien Tchouameni
Aurelien Tchouameni, though, is another big name from France who has shown no development since coming from Monaco in 2022 as the Casemiro replacement, and while Camavinga is talked about as a bigger disappointment, the only thing that saves Tchouameni is that he's "quiet" on the pitch with less visible mistakes - and the expectations for him are not as high.
In every big game, especially Clasicos, Tchouameni is terrible. He is quiet to the point where an honest Real Madrid fan will have a hard time actually saying what he is good at. In this club, you need to be brave and make interventions. Even at his worst, Cama does that. Tchouameni doesn't.
There are rumors Aurelien Tchouameni could leave this summer, and after his silly fight with Fede Valverde in which he hosptitalized a captain, Real Madrid may not say no to the right offer. Manchester United have been linked, and David Ornstein said on the NBC Sports broadcast that Tchou is indeed possibly someone to keep an eye on as a transfer for the Red Devils this summer.
Ornstein does not talk out of his behind. He is the most cautious and plugged in transfer reporter in the United Kingdom and maybe in the world, with all due respect to Fabrizio Romano. If he says there is something there, then there is something there. And just like with Case, if Man United through around big figures for a player Real Madrid spent 80 million on and has not been worth much more than half that, it's going to be hard to decline.
