Real Madrid manager Jose Mourinho is one of the best in the business, and Florentino Perez has really rolled out the red carpet for him in a way that even managers who won multiple Champions League titles with the club, Carlo Ancelotti and Zinedine Zidane, did not have.
Mourinho demanded Marc Cucurella and Bernardo Silva and got them, he landed two other top class defenders, and he may be getting Rodri soon. But there is another player he could land to make it two Galactic wingers for Real Madrid, as in addition to Flo's interest in Bayern Munich superstar Michael Olise, Jose wants Real to sign World Cup darling Yan Diomande.
Last season, Diomande had an outrageous breakout campaign for RB Leipzig in the Bundesliga, and he was arguably just as good as Olise despite not having the same goal contributions because of the subpar team he was playing for.
The focus is on Brahim
Signing Diomande will not be easy, though. PSG had already agreed to personal terms for him, and Leipzig want a ton of money. According to new information from David Ornstein and Mario Cortegana of The Athletic, Real Madrid are looking at Diomande mostly because they want a new right winger to replace Brahim Diaz in the squad. But the problem is that despite the interest from Juventus and other clubs in Brahim - Luciano Spalletti has been wanting him badly for a while - the Moroccan international does not want to leave either.
While Brahim is a talented player who helped Real Madrid win the 2023/24 Champions League title and had a brilliant World Cup as a creator for Morocco, there is no way he is half the player Diomande is - and Real Madrid fans have always felt he lacks the athletic qualities to be a true winger at a club with the demands of this one.
So Brahim may be holding back the club from signing Yan Diomande for over 100 million euros, as Brahim could fetch around half that price from a notable club this summer, especially after he played so well in the World Cup for Morocco, reaching the quarterfinals against France.
Real Madrid need one more great winger, and while that would make Rodrygo Goes a huge loser in all of this, they probably can't make a move to sign both Michael Olise and him if Brahim does not leave at least. And even if he does, signing both would still be tough.
