Dean Huijsen and Fede Valverde greatly praised goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois after the Belgian’s dominant performance in the Champions League win over Inter on Tuesday night.
Huijsen was awesome to watch against Inter, and the same can be said about Courtois, who looked nearly unbeatable between the sticks on the night. He let in one goal, but saved seven genuine Inter chances from going in emphatically, and was easily Real Madrid’s best player.
After the game, Huijsen was asked about the goalkeeper, and his answer was what every Real Madrid fan already knows about Courtois.
He said: “Thibaut Courtois is the best goalkeeper in the world. By far.”
Valverde, who won the man of the match award for his performance against Inter on the night, could not believe the trophy went to him and not his Belgian teammate.
He said: “I cannot believe that I am the man of the match. Thibaut Courtois deserves it, he saved us so many times tonight.”

It is good to see the candid responses to the ridiculous performance from the Belgian shotstopper on Tuesday night. It was obvious that Courtois was far and away the best player on the pitch for either team – which is not really a good look for Real Madrid – but it’ll be something that fans, teammates and the staff would pat him on the back for.
Courtois did not have to make too many saves in the precious games for Real Madrid this season, but that was less about him being bad and more about Real Madrid being a solid defensive team.
Inter carved Real Madrid open on many occasions, despite good performances from some of their defenders, and ultimately, Courtois had to come out and save them from some serious trouble.
Even Mourinho, who praised Courtois for his efforts, could not believe that the man of the match award was given to Valverde instead.
He said: “If Courtois wasn't chosen MVP today, he never will be. I don't want to take anything away from Fede, but the person who chose the MVP must have been sleeping during the match.”
That is basically it. If Mourinho is speaking so openly about another player deserving the MVP award more than the player who actually received it, it says a lot about the kind of performance it was.
Courtois is the best goalkeeper in the world, and has been throughout the 2020s, and if you don’t agree, you can argue with a wall.
