Real Madrid have been bitten by the injury bug for the past number of seasons, however the number of torn ACL's has to be the most worrying of them all. We've seen six ACL tears in the last three seasons, Thibaut Courtois, Eder Militao (twice), David Alaba, Dani Carvajal, and Rodrygo with the Brazilian's being the most recent. ACL injuries typically take between six to eight months to recover from, and for Real Madrid they recently got news regarding Rodrygo's recovery, and given the current state of the Real Madrid attack, it's not an ideal one.

As being reported by AS, the most optimistic projections predict Rodrygo may be sidelined until early 2027 at best as he continues his recovery from a torn ACL suffered back on March 2nd. The Brazilian is doing everything he can to accelerate his recovery, however despite all his hard work, 2027 still seems like the most realistic return date for the attacker.

Rodrygo's much needed return is still a long way off

As mentioned earlier Rodrygo has been sidelined for over a month now after going down injured during Real's match against Getafe on March 2nd, with what the medical staff believed at first was just a regular knock to his knee until later tests revealed a torn ACL. Given the extent of his injury wasn't known at the time he continued playing and finished the match no doubt doing more damage to his knee, which had already shown signs of a partial tear to his ACL back in 2023. The Brazilian will now miss the 2026 FIFA World Cup where he was expected to be a major player in Carlo Ancelotti's squad.

This injury comes at the worst possible time for both Rodrygo and Real Madrid. The Brazilian struggled for form in the early part of the season before finding his form again in January and February bagging six goals and assists in five games before going down injured. Given the current state of the Real Madrid attack with Kylian Mbappe suffering with injuries and others struggling for form, Rodrygo is a player that could have a major impact and could've helped prevent the overall drop in form by Los Blancos but unfortunately he went down injured.

Given the amount of ACL injuries in the last three years questions have to be asked about what exactly is going on at Real Madrid? Some would point to incompetence by the medical staff others believe the retractable pitch at the Bernabeu plays a part given four ACL tears have happened while playing at home. Whether either of these is the actual cause or if it's just bad luck remains unknown but it definitely is something that gets you thinking.

When it comes to Rodrygo, the Brazilian is meeting milestones in his recovery every week but even with him pushing his hardest to be back as soon as possible, he has to look at the broader picture and not rush himself back too soon and risk going down with another injury.
