Erling Haaland has been a dream transfer target of Real Madrid's for years, and even though Los Blancos already have a high priced striker of a Galactic level in Kylian Mbappe, who was the very reason why Florentino Perez did not sign Haaland on the cheap in 2022 when he easily could have, there are many Madridistas who still want to see the Norwegian atop the attack.
Real Madrid presidential candidate Enrique Riquelme waved around a signed contract purporting that he has already signed Haaland from Manchester City due to a release clause, but many insiders - and of course Haaland's representation - are disputing the veracity of Riquelme's claims.
Although he is no longer working in the same building as Haaland, a more reputable opinion is that of Hans-Joachim Watzka, the Borussia Dortmund CEO who is a long time friend of Florentino Perez's and actually had a Haaland deal facilitated on a silver platter for him (just as he did with Haaland's close friend and Dortmund teammate Jude Bellingham).
Florentino Perez's old friend makes a big prediction
If you ask Watzke, it is, as many thought even at the time the striker signed with Manchester City, only a couple of years before the resident of Marbella, Spain is playing in a Real Madrid jersey. Watzke said, via the Madrid Zone, "Erling Haaland loves Real Madrid, and he does not hide it. I think he'll be playing there in 2-3 years, but not this summer."
That is a very bold prediction, and while Watzke subtly gives Florentino Perez another favor by stating Haaland probably isn't coming this summer, which negates the silly guarantee from rival Enrique Riquelme, Real Madrid fans are more interested in Haaland coming in a couple of years when the runway may be more clear for a new No. 9.
Real Madrid are not happy with the goal scoring output of their team. Kylian Mbappe won the Pichichi, but he barely beat relegated striker Vedat Muriqi and was helped by a lot of penalties. He also hoarded shots, did not defend, and had a conversion rate worse than Luka Jovic and Mariano Diaz.
Los Blancos need a striker who will defend, work hard for the team on both ends, and finish off chances clinically while having great positional sense and work rate in counters. Haaland was always the dream pick for the rational Real Madrid fan after Mbappe's first snub showed his true colors in 2022, but maybe time will heal all wounds. At least Aki Watzke seems to think so.
