If one thing has been consistent at Real madrid over the last few years it's injuries. The team has had to cope with numerous injuries to star players at the worst possible time which has cost the team results and trophies year after year. And this year is now different, we've seen a number of Real's most important players see time on the sidelines with injuries, and now two more join that list, all but sealing this season is over.
As announced on Real Madrid's official website, the club has confirmed injuries to both Eder Militao and Arda Guler, ruling the pair out for the remainder of the season. The Brazilian has been diagnosed with an injury to his left hamstring and Guler his right hamstring, with both players now facing a race to be fit, with the FIFA World Cup rapidly approaching.
Real Madrid's injuries keep going from bad to worse
While Militao has already been on the injury list a number of times this season, Guler now joins the list of key players that will spend time on the sidelines recovering from an injury. He joins the likes of Kylian Mbappe, Jude Bellingham, Thibaut Courtois, Ferland Mendy, Dean Huijsen, Eder Militao and Trent Alexander-Arnold, all of whom are key players in the starting lineup, all of whom have gotten injured, completely derailing any hope of consistency on the pitch.
As mentioned earlier the injuries have ruled the duo out for the remaining six matches of the season, including a huge El Clasico matchup against Barcelona at the Camp Nou on May 10th. Guler has been one of Real's best players this season grabbing six goals and 13 assists this season and although Jude Bellingham is now fit, it will be a real challenge to replace the productivity the Turkish international has had this season. As for Militao his injury is a blow not just for the team but for the players confidence. He had only returned a few weeks ago from an injury that had kept him sidelined since December, and to now get injured again can't be good for the players mentals.
The most worrying part of all these injuries is number of injuries that have happened this season while playing at the Bernabeu. Militao has gotten injured twice, ALexander-Arnold early on in the season, Ferland Mendy against Manchester City, Kylian Mbappe, and now Arda Guler. One of the new Bernabeu's groundbreaking features is the retractable pitch that splits into pieces and is kept underground when not playing, which has led many to speculate that there could be issues with the pitch that play a part in all these injuries and frankly the evidence is there to back up this theory.
The injuries to Militao and Guler all but confirm Real's season is done. Los Blancos are currently nine points behind league leaders Barcelona and a late title charge doesn't seem realistic whatsoever. Even with Barcelona's Lamine Yamal being ruled out for the rest of the season, the gap to the top is too much to make up in such a short time. For the healthy players, it would be in their best interest to just stay healthy and not risk their World Cup campaigns during the last few games this season.
