Real Madrid youngster Endrick is cooking in Ligue 1 for Lyon. Once again, the Brazilian phenom proved decisive in a huge match for the OL, scoring and assisting within the first 20 minutes to send reigning Ligue 1 and Champions League winners PSG into a tail spin.
Endrick has been the best player on Lyon and in the discussion for one of the best players in all of Ligue 1 since joining the club in the winter transfer window as a loan signing from the mighty Real Madrid. But despite leading the team in chances created and dribbles won while notching nearly 10 goal contributions, Endrick has had to face intense criticism from within.
The weekend before beating PSG, Paulo Fonseca actually publicly called out and benched Endrick, who responded in kind with a fantastic performance against Lorient and then this match winning display over rivals PSG, the best team in the league.
Endrick had the perfect response to Paulo Fonseca
In response to Fonseca's horrid treatment of him, Endrick took the high road and proved unequivocally that regardless of what Xabi Alonso seemed to hink of him, the young man absolutely has the right mentality to succeed at Real Madrid.
He told reporters at the press conference, via Fabrizio Romano, that he is not against Paulo Fonseca despite what the coach did, āIāll never be upset about that. I only drive myself to work. I have to answer on the pitchā.
Now that is what Real Madrid need to see. They need to see their young, classy attackers responsive to criticism and able to let their play on the pitch do the talking. Even multi time Champions League winners like VInicius Junior have been weak in this regard, getting mad at the coach or sulking about. Or you have others like Kylian Mbappe who are quiet but don't actually listen to what the coach is saying. And Fonseca definitely treated Endrick far worse here than Xabi Alonso ever did VInicius (or Luis Enrique to Mbappe back in the PSG days).
Real Madrid have always been built around big personalties who are confident, rather than being egotistical. This team has been about players like Gareth Bale, Cristiano Ronaldo, and Karim Benzema who carry themselves with class and respond to intense criticism by stepping up to another level. Endrick is showing that he can do that, and while he is still very young and nowhere near these guys, the remarks about his mentality being off seem to be wide of the mark themselves.
