Letting Endrick leave on loan wasn't Real Madrid's only huge transfer mistake

Real Madrid reportedly can't understand why Xabi Alonso didn't hand Endrick more game time after watching him star at Lyon. The Brazilian has been reborn in France and enjoyed a stellar start to life in Ligue 1.

Endrick joined Lyon on loan earlier this month until the end of the season and has already bagged four goals and one assist in three appearances. That includes a stunning hat-trick in a 5-2 win over Metz last weekend.

The 19-year-old failed to win over Alonso during the Spaniard's reign which came to an end just a week after he left for Groupama Stadium. But he isn't the only youngster who Los Blancos should have put their faith in.

Real Madrid got Paz sale wrong

Madrid's decision to sell Nico Paz to Italian outfit Como back in 2024 looks clumsier by the minute. The Argentine attacker is flourishing under Cesc Fabregas and scored in a 3-1 win over Fiorentina in the Coppa Italia Round of 16.

Paz now has 16 goal contributions to his name this season, bagging nine goals and six assists in 24 games across competitions. He is starring for Como and proving to be one of Europe's most promising talents at 21.

Madrid sold the Spanish-born playmaker to the Italians for €6 million in the summer of 2024. The club did include a 50% sell-on clause and buy-back clause, per Fabrizio Romano.

That gives Los Blancos control over his future if other clubs eye signing him, but it's been clear this season that a creative midfield profile is needed at the Bernabeu. There are reports suggesting the club will take up their buy-back option this summer.

Paz may well have headed to Como with the intention to prove Madrid wrong and he's done just that. He has posted 15 goals and as many assists in 59 games, becoming a crucial player for Fabregas.

The six-cap Argentina international was asked about speculation linking him with a return to the Bernabeu. He said after the win over Fiorentina (via Tribuna):

"I don't know, there are still many things to do. I'm thinking about playing here at Como and winning everything we can. We're thinking about getting as high as possible and playing match after match."

Paz does have other European sides showing interest and that puts Madrid under pressure to swoop this summer. But it feels likely he'd prioritise a return to the Spanish capital and the club where he rose through the youth ranks before making eight senior appearances.
