Enrique Riquelme has made a number of bold promises on his presidential campaign, but the boldest came this week with his promise that he will bring Erling Haaland to Real Madrid should he win the presidential elections and already has an agreement in place with the player. Fabrizio Romano has already confirmed Haaland's father says these claims not true whatsoever, however that hasn't stopped Riquelme from doubling down on his claim.

As being reported by theMadridZone on X, Riquelme is sticking to his guns when it comes to his claim that he has signed Haaland, and frankly he sounds more delusional as he keeps talking. Riquelme went on to say:

"I've spoken to Erling Haaland directly, and I've spoken with his inner circle.

He will join Real Madrid if I'm elected on Sunday.

His agent? I don't know her personally, but people in my circle do.

Denial? It's normal, it's an election, there are two candidates, no one is guaranteed to win, and they have to protect the player. It seems normal to me.

Remember the Figo case? Figo himself said in all the media outlets that he wasn't coming.

I understand this, I don't take it personally, it's part of the world of sports, the world of football, and it's totally fine."

Is Enrique Riquelme delusional or is he being serious?

Wow. Where to start, firstly the commitment has to be respected, Riquelme really believes his own delusions but surely he can't be serious right? The claims have already been denied by the players entourage why is Riquelme doubling down saying he met with Haaland and his inner circle directly? No disrespect but Riquelme is a nobody, he's not associated with official Real Madrid business so he has no power to negotiate or meet with players to discuss possible transfers.

Riquelme has compared his deal to sign Haaland with the deal Florentino Perez worked out in 2000 to bring in Luis Figo, however the difference being Figo had a release clause, Haaland doesn't as well as the fact that Perez didn't say he already signed Figo as part of his campaign, he said he would bring in Figo which he did, no deal had been in place before the elections like Riquelme is claiming now.

Riquelme believes his delusions so strongly that he is in denial of Haaland's denial viewing it as "protecting the player" and a "normal part of sports" because he truly believes he now has the upper hand over Florentino Perez and this signing is what is going to win him the elections.

There's no denying that a player like Haaland is what Real Madrid need right now but it's just not going to happen. Enrique Riquelme has made some fantastical claims on his campaign trail but frankly it just keeps making him look like a less serious candidate, just saying what he thinks the fans want to hear instead of actually thinking things through and doing what would be best for the club.
