Real Madrid are hunting the transfer market for a new defensive midfielder who can dictate games and create chances while screening the back line effectively, and given how many names Jose Mourinho is looking at, you get the sense that he is not entirely satisfied with the job Aurelien Tchouameni has been doing as the No. 6 since costing Madrid 80 million euros in 2022.

Although Mourinho seems to be intent on Mateus Fernandes, the young West Ham United breakout midfielder could cost close to 100 million euros, which is an insane price for a player who, while promising, was relegated and is still not proven.

Enzo Fernandez, meanwhile, has been pining for Real Madrid for months and is a proven star at one of the biggest clubs in the world in Chelsea, and before arriving at Stamford Bridge, he was a key cog in the wheel as Argentina won the 2022 World Cup over France.

Real Madrid are in the clear for Enzo Fernandez

The Argentinian international continues to be a huge topic for Real Madrid as he continue to enhance his reputation with strong performances for his country at the 2026 World Cup. And according to a report from transfer insider Ben Jacobs, via the Madrid Zone, Enzo is so strongly interested in Real Madrid that they are apparently the ONLY dream club for the 25 year old.

Chelsea spent well over 100 million euros to sign Enzo from Benfica a couple of years ago, and they want to make a profit on their record acquisition. That has made Real Madrid hesitant about signing him, even though Florentino Perez has always favored him as his main choice to be the 6, including over Spain star Rodri, and Mourinho also seems interested in the player despite his own vested desire in bringing the Portuguese international Mateus Fernandes to the Santiago Bernabeu.

Enzo Fernandez is capable of coming up to the box and scoring goals, he has a great sense of creative and progressive passing, he is solid on the ball, and he is one of the best defenders in his position in the Premier League.

Real Madrid would do well to sign him, and if he is making it very clear to Chelsea that he both wants out and only wants to sign with Real Madrid, then that means Los Merengues have the leverage they need to bum down the asking price for Enzo to a more palatable fee than 150 million euros.
