It seemed like Enzo Fernandez was the dream midfield option for Jose Mourinho at Real Madrid this summer transfer window, even though Chelsea were asking for over 120 million euros to sign the player they bought for about that price at Benfica a few years ago.

Enzo has been very interested in leaving Chelsea for the Santiago Bernabeu this year, but despite all the rumors linking him to Madrid and potentiall Aurelien Tchouameni going back the other way, Real Madrid did something they never do. They released a statement with the clear message that they have no interest in signing Enzo either now or ever, which was a lot different than what was actually written in the statement on Michael Olise meant to appease Bayern Munich (with the full intention of going guns ablazing for the French right winger when the actually can sign him).

And to seal that point, Real Madrid signed Tchouameni to a contract extension through 2030/31, sending a clear message to Tchou that both Jose Mourinho trusts him 100 percent and that the Portuguese manager actually never wanted Fernandez, Rodri, or another midfielder in the first place.

Enzo Fernandez is no longer Real Madrid worthy in one swift moment

Although some Madrid fans and the English media have wondered if it is actually true that Real Madrid do not want Enzo, there have been no movements on the player, and the Spanish press close to Florentino Perez continue to reiterate that the president and the club do not want to sign him.

In the World Cup Final against Spain, Enzo proved why Florentino is 100 percent right. Going up against another defensive midfielder Florentino has not been trying to sign, Rodri, Enzo looked like a second rate footballer and someone who belongs nowhere near the White House now or ever.

Enzo was an embarrassment to the sport along with the rest of his Argentina teammates, spending more time flopping and complaining to the ref while committing cheap fouls, and he got himself sent off like the unreliable hot head that he is, leveling Pau Cubarsi to the floor in insane fashion while still on a yellow card.

It was a moment that cost Argentina the match and proved that Florentino Perez and Real Madrid are totally right for not wanting anything to do with Enzo. Despite his strong peformances against weaker opponents and clutch goal against England, there will be no Enzo regret. Because Real Madrid cannot waste 120 to 150 millino euros on a player who can't keep his own wits about him in a Final while getting totally destroyed in the midfield tactically by Rodri, who will be a free signing for Madrid in 2027.
