Erling Haaland may have created chaos with Real Madrid winks

For years, Erling Haaland has been a topic for Real Madrid, because even though the Merengues were caught napping in 2022 when they had the chance to sign him at a bargain rate from Borussia Dortmund but were instead fixated on a Kylian Mbappe who would not make his Bernabeu arrival until two years later, the Haaland rumors have never died.

A dream target of both Florentino Perez's and his rival Barcelona counterpart Joan Laporta to the east, Haaland has been more than happy with life at Manchester City, winning titles. But back in 2022, Haaland bought a house in Marbella, Spain, in preparation for a possible Madrid move, and even in 2026, his father and Fabrizio Romano have not ruled out a future Madrid move - and his former executive at Dortmund, CEO Aki Watzke, still think Haaland is destined for Spanish football.

This summer, Haaland is having a World Cup for the ages, leading Norway to the quarterfinals against England and his former teammate and current Madridista Jude Bellingham. Haaland scored twice to sink Brazil in an upset, undoing Vinicius Junior's quietly excellent day in attempting to carry the Selecao.

The good kind of chaos for Real Madrid

Both before and after the game, Erling Haaland was exchanging a lost of pleasantries with Vini amidst the whispers of a future Madrid ploy. And even during the World Cup quarterfinal between France and Morocco, Haaland Snapchatted his support for Kylian Mbappe after the French striker was victimized by an unduly long VAR review (for no good reason).

Haaland's winks at Real Madrid are creating a good kind of chaos, because, what's clever, is that Haaland is trying to maintain a strong relationship with both Vinicius Junior and Kylian Mbappe. The argument back in 2022 was to sign both Haaland and Mbappe, somehow getting them to coexist with Champions League winners Rodrygo Goes and Vini.

Now, without any trophies in two seasons despite signing Mbappe, Jose Mourinho has the task of getting just Vini, Mbappe, and Jude Bellingham on the same page. But there is great confidence from Florentino Perez and the club that the arguable GOAT of managers will be able to do so.

Haaland and his left foot being on the same page as Vini, Mbappe, and Rodrygo and fitting in the same lineup sounds crazy, much less if Real Madrid still dream of uniting Michael Olise and Mbappe together. But Perez and Madridistas are crazy enough to dream, and since Haaland already has a strong relationship wtih Jude, is building one with Vini, and seems to want one with Mbappe, the seeds are already being planted. As Mourinho likes to say, chaos is beautiful.
