Before Kylian Mbappe ever stepped foot at Real Madrid, Madridistas were openly wondering how he and Vinicius Junior would coexist, even back in 2021 when the rumors were really heating up on Florentino Perez's pursuit of his ultimate dream transfer target.
It did not take long for the rumors of locker room unrest to swirl, and with Real Madrid not winning any titles so far since the French superstar's arrival and weighty contract, which led to rumors of unrest between Vini and Real in contract renewal negotaitions, the media saw their chance to create a rift between two players whose best position is the same (left wing).
Real Madrid manager Alvaro Arbeloa has brilliantly navigated the rumors of unrest, flipping the narrative from a mold that Xabi Alonso was allowing to fester in the nether corners of the Real Madrid lockers. All is well now, and Vinicius Jr. and Kylian Mbappe themselves have done nothing but praise each other and try to make this relationship work, though fans remain skeptical about the newcomer with no Champions Leagues.
Vinicius Jr. defends Kylian Mbappe
But Vinicius knows that while people are talking, he is here to address the rumors and say in unequivocal terms that he and Mbappe work well together. He told the press before the Bayern Munich battle at the Santiago Bernabeu, via the Madrid Zone, "People are saying the team is not playing well with Kylian Mbappé? People say a lot of things. When there are lot of great players, everyone talks about all of them. Kylian scores a lot, always gives us confidence. He is here to help. I have an incredible connection on and off the pitch with him. We will battle and fight together for the club."
Big ups to Vinicius Junior for not pretending like all the talking does not exist, because that is a great way to lose people and to get them to ignore your message. Vini knows what is out there, and he knows that a lot of the narrative is about them not getting along as people on and off the pitch. Not only does Vini address that, but he also addresses this idea that Mbappe's goals are not enough.
There was a saying before Kylian Mbappe arrived that was meant to assuage any doubts about the two working together. It is that two "cracks", or two elite players, always make each other better than they are individually. Vini is invoking this a bit, though what will truly convince Madridistas and wider observers is seeing that in action on the pitch at the Bernabeu.
